A very inspiring story about Jessica Pegula's strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Pegula's mother, Kim Pegula, went into cardiac arrest in her sleep in December 2021.

Kim's recovery has been a slow and difficult process, but Jessica has been there every step of the way. She has continued to compete on the WTA Tour, even while dealing with the emotional and physical toll of her mother's illness.

In January 2022, Pegula was watching a football game when she saw a player collapse on the field. The player, Damar Hamlin, had suffered a cardiac arrest, but he was eventually revived.

Pegula was so shaken by the incident that she considered not playing in the United Cup tournament that weekend. However, she ultimately decided to compete, and she wore a No. 3 patch on her outfit to honor Hamlin. No. 3 was Pegula's ranking at the time, and it was also the number that Hamlin wore on his jersey.

Pegula went on to have a successful tournament, reaching the quarterfinals. She then went on to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open in January 2023. However, her mother's health took a turn for the worse in June 2023, and Pegula was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon.
